The Castell de l’Olla, which is held on the Saturday closest to the festival of Sant Llorenç, has become a highly recognized and praised spectacle over the years. It manages to attract more than 50,000 people, who are delighted with an explosion of light and gunpowder.This festival, which is much more than fireworks, takes place in the Mediterranean Sea that bathes Altea. The Castell de l’Olla is launched from a platform, and this causes it to rise from the sea itself, reflecting it in the water and increasing its magic.This Altea wonder has more than 30 years of history, and increasingly, it brings together different boats in the bay of Altea to be able to contemplate the pyromusical spectacle in all its splendor.The event, which has grown over the years, was born from a tribute to the local pyrotechnician Blas Aznar, “el tio Blai, el coheter”, who died years ago. A special fireworks display was launched in his honour and since then, Castell de l’Olla has matured to what it is today.Castell de l’Olla is recognised with the distinction of the Tourist Merit Award, in the gold category of the 1999 edition, awarded by the Provincial Tourism Board of the Costa Blanca and in 2007, declared a Festival of Tourist Interest of the Community by the Generalitat Valenciana.
